Michelle Cartlidge was born in London. She became a student at both Hornsey College of Art and the Royal College of Art studying Ceramics. Her first book, Pippen and Pod won the Mother Goose Award. Her Teddy Trucks books were made into a BBC TV cartoon series.

VALENTINA CAVALLINI was born and brought up in Milan, Italy. She studied Illustration at Chelsea School of Art and Design and the University of the West of England, Bristol, where she now lives. She works in watercolour, combining hand-painted paper with found materials to create textured images. In 2007 her illustrations were chosen for the Bologna Book Fair Illustrators' Exhibition and toured Japan and Korea. .....

Grania Cavendish, is a painter and a photographer. She and her husband, Hugh Cavendish, have lived, worked and gardened at Holker since they inherited the estate in 1972.
Chamberlain, Margaret
Margaret Chamberlain is a well-respected illustrator of children's books. She lives in Dorset. Her books for Frances Lincoln are Has Anyone Seen Jack?, Look Out He's Behind You and Tales from Grimm.
Chapman, Gaye
Gaye Chapman is a fine artist and illustrator who explores mixed media in her artwork. She used sepia ink line drawings, acrylic ink plus tea-stained paintings, and collaged metallic papers to create Precious Little's world. Gaye's picture book, Little Blue, was the winner of the Children's Book Award in the 2009 Queensland Premier's Literary Awards.
Chappell, Warren
Warren Chappell (1904-1991) was a prominent American graphic artist, book illustrator, and typographer. He illustrated many classic texts, among them Gulliver's Travels, Moby-Dick, Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker; created two highly regarded typefaces, Lydian and Trajanus; and wrote several books on typography, including the classic Short History of the Printed Word.
Chichester Clark, Emma
Emma Chichester Clark studied at the Chelsea School of Art and the Royal College of Art. In 1988 she won the Mother Goose Award for her first book, Listen to This!, an anthology compiled by Laura Cecil. Since then, she has become internationally known, illustrating writers such as Roald Dahl, Peter Dickinson, Anne Fine and Margaret Mahy. Emma was the first winner of the newly created Grinzane Junior Award for I Love you, Blue Kangaroo.

VALERIE COLIN-RUSS was a career civil servant before becoming a London Guide and Chairman of the London Appreciation Society for six years; she is now a Vice-President of the Society. Although she has travelled extensively, London remains her favourite city. She has been described as London's leading lion-hunter and has given many lectures on London's lion statuary. She lives in west London.

Cooper, Donal
Donal Cooper is Assistant Professor in the History of Art Department at the University of Warwick. A specialist in the artistic patronage of the Franciscan Order in the Middle Ages and Renaissance, he has published widely on the art and architecture of the friars in Italy, particularly in Umbria. Donal is currently preparing a book on the Basilica of San Francesco at Assisi.
Coplestone, Jim
Jim Coplestone studied Graphic Illustration at Exeter College of Art and completed an MA in Theatre Design. His rapport with children has led him to work as a primary school teacher, arts workshop leader and home-tutor and this is apparent in his lively ink pictures. He lives in Symondsbury, Dorset. Jim's books for Frances Lincoln are Noah's Bed, Animals Aboard, Seven for a Secret, A Walk in the Wild Woods and The No-No Bird.

Val Corbett has been a freelance photographer for 20 years. Her garden photographs appear regularly in national magazines such as English Garden and Country Life. Gardens of the Lake District by Tim Longville, with photographs by Val Corbett (Frances Lincoln) won the 2008 Lakeland Book of the Year Award.

Corfield, Robin Bell
Robin Bell Corfield studied Painting at Norwich School of Art and took a PGCE at Reading University. He taught for many years, before becoming a full-time illustrator. He lives in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.

Cosic, Stjepan
Stjepan Cosic was born in 1964. He studied history and sociology at the University of Zadar and completed his doctorate at the University of Zagreb in 1988. He has worked as an archivist in the State Archives in Dubrovnik and as a researcher at the Institute for Historical Sciences in Dubrovnik. Since 2004 he has been Director of the Croatian State Archives in Zagreb. He lectures in graduate and doctoral studies in Zagreb and Dubrovnik, and has published several books and scientific papers.

Curless, Allan
Allan Curless was a political cartoonist for 16 years, working mostly for the Sunday Times. His first children's book, Cat's Song with Andrew Matthews, was shortlisted for the Mother Goose Award and the Smarties Prize in 1994. He died in 1997.
