SARA ACTON was born in the Cotswolds and always loved drawing, especially people and other strange creatures. She studied fine art and trained as an art teacher in London. After teaching and practising art for many years in England and NZ she moved to Australia with her family. Sara now lives in a small seaside village near Sydney, where she enjoys writing and illustrating for children in her studio whilst drinking tea and eating far too many biscuits. .....

Sarah Adams studied Art and Design at Hull College of Art. After graduating she completed a post-graduate in illustration at Central St Martins School of Art in London. Sarah has worked for numerous and varied publishers including Walker Books, Orchard books and The Times but GARY AND RAY was the first picture book she both wrote and illustrated. Adl, Kamyar
KAMYAR ADL was born and brought up in Iran. After finishing school Kamyar spent a short while at Azad University studying photography but he soon left to do his military service in some desert near the Iran/Iraq border. He never went back to university but he did some photography jobs, one of which being taking photos of old doors and windows in downtown Tehran for a famous Iranian architect. Then at the age of 25 he married Shirin and moved to England. .....

SHIRIN ADL was born in the UK but was brought up in Iran. She studied Illustration at Loughborough University, going ton to win the Hallmark M&S Talented Desginer Award. She was Booktrust's official illustrator forChildren's Book Week in 2010. Aggs, Patrice
Patrice Aggs was born and brought up in the United States, but now lives in West Sussex, England. She has illustrated over thirty-five picture books for children. In the early 1980s she was part of the team which produced the animated film The Snowman.
Patrice is currently writing picture books, illustrating and printmaking. She lives on a farm in West Sussex with her husband and two teenagers. .....

POLLY ALAKIJA is a British artist living and working in South Africa. Before that, she lived for fifteen years in Nigeria. Her paintings have been widely exhibited in Africa and Europe, and her previous books include Catch That Goat for Barefoot Books. This is her first book for Frances Lincoln. She lives in Tewkesbury, Gloscestershire.

June Allan was born in Edinburgh and can't remember a time when she didn't love drawing: in her pram, in lessons at school, in Art College, in teacher training college! She has illustrated many children's books. She still lives in Edinburgh with her husband, two children, three guinea pigs and lots of goldfish.

Alouf, Sandrine
Sandrine Alouf is a French photographer whose photographs appear in Paris Chic & Trendy and Boutique and Chic Hotels in Paris (both The Little Bookroom). Her installation of photographs of clouds along the platform of the RER Luxemboug station in Paris was called "À ciel ouvert" ("Open to the sky").

Scoular Anderson is Scottish by birth. He studied Graphic Design at the Glasgow School of Art and worked as an illustrator for London University. Wayne Anderson has illustrated over 20 books for children. He was overall Winner of the V&A Illustration Award for Gnomes and Gardens, written by Nigel Suckling, and Highly Commended for The Tin Forest, by Helen Ward.

Their picture books – including the Chimp and Zee series – have won numerous awards and have been featured on television and radio. Catherine grew up in the Cotswolds as one of a family of eight. After a brief nursing career, she found her true vocation as an artist at Falmouth Art School, leaving to take an MA at the Royal College of Art in London. .....

Ardizzone, Edward
Edward Ardizzone was the eldest of five children. In 1905 his family moved to Ipswich, where he learnt to know and love the little coastal steamers that he was to draw so often in the Little Tim books. Illustrator of more than 170 much-loved children's books, Edward Ardizzone was awarded the Kate Greenaway Medal in 1956 and the CBE in 1971. He died in 1979.
