The fox cubs Pablo, Poppy and Pumpkin are hungry and can't wait for Red Fox and Rose to come back with supper. They sneak out of the den, watched by Gil Gull, and try fishing in the canal, but they end up soaked, so they head for the market instead.

Pablo rather likes the look of the big house at the end of the garden where Finbar the cat lives, so he and Pumpkin decide to find out what it's like inside.
