T. Balaji
T. Balaji is a master craftsman working in the traditional Kalamaki style of Indian textile painting. He also holds a PhD in Physics, and has a(nother) day job as a scientist. Born into a weavers' community, he is the first Kalamaki artist to illustrate narrative fiction – a departure from the form's traditional depictions of deities and mythology. He also runs the Hasthakala Kendram foundation, which gives annual awards to traditional artists.
