‘Floats like a butterfly, sting like a bee, his hands can’t hit what his eyes can’t see.’ – Muhammad Ali
One of the greatest sportsmen of the century Muhammad Ali is heralded as an American hero and is an embodiment of strength and talent.
Born Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr. On 17 January 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky, Ali changed his name to Muhammad Ali only much later in 1975 when he converted to Islam. Muhammad Ali discovered his talent for boxing through an odd twist of fate at the age of 12. One day Ali’s bike was stolen. He went to a police officer, Joe Martin, and told him that he wanted to beat up the thief. Joe Martin told him that first he had to learn how to fight. Coincidently, Joe Martin was a boxing trainer who took on Ali and trained him. It was here that Ali started his boxing career. Years of hard work and steadfast dedication later Ali had his first Olympic victory. There was no turning back from this moment on. Ali went on to win some legendary fights, including the World Heavyweight Boxing championship three times, and is remembered as one of the greatest boxers the world has ever seen. A gripping story about the life one a young boy, the obstacles he faced and what led him to become ‘the greatest’ boxer known.
