The Far Eastern Fells of Lakeland rise to the east of Kirkstone Pass and the Patterdale valley. To the north and south they run down towards low country, and eastwards they merge into the high ground of the Pennines. Many of the heights are relatively inaccessible and lonely, but the scenery here and the excellence of the walks rank, in Wainwright's view, with the Lake Disctrict's best.
