Fatimah is a devout Muslim. Steve is a regular guy who has never given much thought to faith. They happen to be walking in the same street when a terrorist bomb explodes. Steve is badly injured and when the emergency services arrive, Fatimah is cradling his head in her lap, talking to him, willing him to stay alive. But the Press is there too, and next day their picture appears in every newspaper. 'Romeo and Juliet', scream the headlines. 'Love across the divide.' Then the threats and anonymous 'phone calls start. Can the two young people rise above the hatred and learn to understand one another? But while Steve and Fatimah are trying to break down barriers, the terrorists have another target in mind…

While clearly about a hot topic, this book should not be dismissed merely as a vehicle for the introduction of different points of view about Muslim and other ways of life in Britain today. The author creates a believable plot and shows the full range of emotions on both sides as the two young people come to terms with their own values and attitudes, while also coping with those of their wider families. The plot is well-paced and characters are rounded. Rosemary Hayes does not shrink from uncomfortable events and truths. The style is lucid and readable and the book should definitely appeal to teenagers who read less avidly. It would also make a useful starter for discussions about faith and values. - www.writeaway.org.uk

A topical and well-researched book. - Bookfest Ireland - Recommended Reading Guide

A convincing, honest and satisfying read. It is very carefully plotted, driving towards a conclusion that genuinely takes the reader by surprise. - Books for Keeps
