Bongani's day begins just like it does for most children: he washes, brushes his teeth and has breakfast; later at school he learns all about the letter C and makes a clown face from a paper plate. But when Bongani gets home in the evening, he puts on his kwaito music videos and dances the kwasa kwasa to the lively sounds and rhythms of South Africa...
After school, Uncle David takes Bongani to see Manana at her food caravan. Sometimes Bongani helps Manana sweep the pavement around the caravan, but today his friend James has asked him to helpwash Manana's car. It is James' job to wash the minibus taxis while the drivers are having their lunch.
Today Manana has prepared her speciality, the African Plate. She and Bongani sit down together to enjoy their food while Manana's assistant watches over the big silver cooking pots on the stove.
AFRICAN PLATE - Manana's African Plate is made up of meat stew, mielie pap (a stiff white porridge made from corn), mashed potato, beetroot and chakalaka, a delicious dish made from tomatoes, onions and chillies.
